Semaglutide (generic form of Ozempic, Wegovy, and Rebelsus) -belongs to a class of medications called glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1) agonists, which act on the stomach, pancreas, and brain, resulting in appetite suppression and weight loss.

Semaglutide slows gastric emptying, resulting in an earlier and longer-lasting sense of fullness.  In the brain, semaglutide acts upon the hypothalamus, which controls sensations of hunger and satiety, as well as the part of the brain that controls eating for pleasure.  Semaglutide also improves pancreatic release of insulin during meals, which also acts to suppress appetite.

A semaglutide regimen will also lead to healthier blood sugar levels. Weight loss and improved blood sugar levels can help patients feel more energetic throughout their day and improve overall health. Improved eating habits and a regular exercise regimen will help to support weight loss and fitness.  These lifestyle changes will also be absolutely necessary to maintain long-term weight reduction.

Your treatment will be medically supervised by Lisa Mitchell, PA, who will be available to you (by phone or email when not in the office) should any questions or issues arise.  Initial medical consultation is free and by appointment only.
